Abstract
In service experience of renewable energy systems, particularly wind generation has shown a large degree of variability in the output of such generation in terms of both real and reactive power. The controllability of a thyristor based HVDC scheme can be utilised to isolate the main power system from the variability in this generation and reduce the thermal stresses imposed on the transmission equipment. An alternative control method for a HVDC scheme is presented and results of simulations shown.
