Abstract
Previously proposed analytical studies for IEEE 802.11 distributed coordination function model the behavior of a wireless station operating under saturation conditions as a two-dimensional discrete time Markov chain. In this document, we show that the two-dimensional chain can be partitioned into two one-dimensional chains. Such a partitioning not only simplifies the analysis, but also significantly reduces the number of state variables
