Abstract :
This paper presents an experimental assessment of the subjective quality perceived by end-users of mobile VoIP calls in Mobile IPv6 and SIP mobility scenarios. This assessment is done using the ITU-T E-model. The study shows that the tested implementations of MIPv6 and SIP mobility are not good enough at providing acceptable voice quality (i.e. R-factor of the E-model ¿ 70.) However, the detailed evaluation of the factors that contribute to the total handoff latency allows identifying various performance enhancements. Various solutions are then proposed to adapt the MIPv6 and SIP mobility implementations to provide mobility to VoIP clients with acceptable quality.
