Abstract :
Relaying has been proven to improve coverage and capacity in wireless cellular networks. In this work, we study the effect of three enhancement techniques on the performance of fixed relays in multihop based cellular networks. First, multiuser detection is used to cancel part of the interference at the relays coming from neighboring nodes. Second, multihop diversity is achieved at the base stations as a result of a cooperation scheme between the relay stations. Finally, multiple relaying is employed whereby a relay station is able to relay multiple users simultaneously. Results show that gains up to 78% could be achieved with respect to conventional cellular networks when such techniques are employed with fixed relaying in comparison to gains of 34% in the case of mobile relaying and 7% in the case of simple fixed relaying.
