Abstract
This paper focuses on the application of a new algorithm for voltage sag/dip detection for improved protection of wind generators when subjected to power system disturbances. Improper protection of these systems during a voltage dip can introduce instability into the network. A description of the doubly-fed induction wind generator system is presented as well as a mathematical description of the detection algorithm. The performance of the algorithm is compared to other detection methods. The results show that the detection algorithm can benefit wind energy conversion systems when used as part of the fault migration system
