Abstract :
A general power equation for permanent magnet doubly salient electrical machine (DSEM) is developed. The new power equation reveals the relationship between the machine structure and the electromagnetic design parameters, laying a foundation for design and optimization of DSEM. Three typical DSEMs, namely doubly salient permanent magnet (DSPM) machine, flux reversal machine (FRM), and flux-switching permanent magnet (FSPM) machine, are analyzed by using the derived equations. The comparison of the power producing capability of the three types of DSEMs is carried out and the key features of the machines are revealed. The results illustrate that the general power equation developed in this paper provides an easy and efficient way for the machine designers to compare the power producing capability and other performances of diverse topologies and configurations of DSEMs
