Abstract
To provide scalable and stable on-demand streaming service, we proposed multiple description coding based Peer-to-Peer approach. Peer-to-peer (P2P) systems take advantage of resources at individual peers and hence scale with the population size. However, all these systems, including ours, assume that peers are willing to share their resources which differ largely from the fact. We introduce new incentive mechanism into our system to solve this problem. Considering special property of media streaming, such as mass data and stringent time limitation, our mechanism not simply urges peers cooperation by traditional reputation in file sharing system, but also we add verification message scheme which monitor peer online performance. Simulations show that our solution effectively urges selfish peers to cooperate in on-demand streaming. Moreover, the mechanism largely improves the quality of streaming to cooperative peers
