Abstract
Motion blending, which allows the generation of new motions by interpolation or transition between motion capture sequences, is widely accepted as a standard technique in computer animation. But the transition time and duration is manually chosen in traditional blending approaches and all frames of motion clips must be computed to select the right transition point. This paper presents a new motion blending method that can reduce computing work by extracting the key frames for selecting the transition point and can automatically select the transition time. To evaluate the effectiveness of the improved method, we have done extensive experiments. The experiment results show that the novel motion blending method is effective in smoothly blending between two motion sequences.
