Abstract
Multimedia application is a class of applications that will be popular on mobile devices. Meantime, it is a kind of applications that has complex computation, and a resource-killer application. But resources, especially energy, are very important for mobile devices. There is the conflict between the resources limit and the computation complexity. Computation offloading is a method to deal with this problem. In this paper, we mainly focus on the usage of the computation offloading method to H.264 video encoder on mobile devices. We propose H.264 encoder modularization model and energy models. Based on the models, we also propose three offloading schemes. The simulation result of using these offloading schemes shows that the computation offloading of H.264 video encoder on mobile devices is efficient and valuable for energy saving
