Abstract :
Location information in mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs) provides efficiency to routing algorithms. Based on the analysis of several typical location update schemas, this paper proposes a new location information service algorithm called PULI and its variation mPULI. The essence of PULI/mPULI lies in the neat integration of location prediction and constrained broadcasting of location update packets. The simulation results have shown an improved performance of PULI/mPULI thanks to its newly introduced two extra types of updates where location prediction is applied to reduce the number of packets or bytes transmitted for location update purpose whereas keeping a high accuracy level of location information
