Abstract
The properties of millimeter waves (MMWs) provide security systems based on this technology with a considerable advantage when compared to other security and surveillance systems. We highlight their ability to penetrate clothing and other common materials [1], their imaging capability under adverse weather conditions during the day and night, and their low free-space attenuation and high spatial resolution. These advantages are increasing the use of MMW imaging systems in security applications to protect the security of civilian (train and underground stations, airports, government buildings, etc.) and military facilities (military bases, checkpoints, etc.), as well as people themselves.
