Abstract :
A wireless health recording and alert system for use by the elderly, athletes in training and firefighters has been devised and implemented. The system has a number of features that can be customized according to the user and type of service required. System consists of three units, i.e. sensor unit, base unit and server unit. The sensor unit basically measures a few physiological parameters in an unobtrusive way and transmits them using radio frequency to a base unit. The base unit is capable of making a decision based on the data received, and can send out an alert signal in the form of short message service (SMS) to a caretaking person. In addition, the base unit which is able to collate data from multiple sensor units transmits the data to a central server using the global system for mobile (GSM) communications modem. The central server is able to store data in a database according to user identification number and can provide this data worldwide on the internet in a secured manner.
