Abstract
We developed a long multi-grid-type microstrip gas counter, which is possible to insert a tube, as a replacement of conventional wire proportional counter. Test plates with new position encoding method named "GLG cathode encoding method" were fabricated successfully and tested with synchrotron X-ray and cold neutrons. As a result, sufficient gas gains were obtained at each case and the position detection scheme using cathode signals was confirmed. The best position resolution was estimated 1.6 mm at the gas gain of 3500 with 14 keV X-ray. This tube-type M-MSGCs will be used for neutron scattering experiment at a reasonable cost.
