Abstract
In this paper the influence of gap distance on arc modes transition of cup type AMF electrode is investigated by a CCD at different gap distance 10 mm to 20 mm. The arc keeps diffuse arc modes while the amplitude of arc current reaches 22.0 kA at gap distance 10 mm. With the gap distance increasing to 20 mm, the concentration of arc column near anode occurs while the amplitude of arc current is 14.0 kA. With the amplitude of arc current increasing, the duration time of the concentration of arc column near anode also increases at the same gap distance
