  • Abstract
There are significant changes in the new EMC Directive 2004/108/EC with regard to the compliance of installations with essential requirements. The presentation covers the impact of the new EMC Directive on building development and the issues that need to be addressed to ensure that both legal and contractual requirements are achieved. In many cases it is important to define, or measure, the electromagnetic environment so that key aspects are addressed and the effective building design principles for EMC are determined. Installed equipment should be supplied only when compliant with applicable standards but often there is a requirement to determine whether the standards are sufficient and whether there are additional issues that need to be addressed. Generally application of Codes of Practice for installation design and construction will ensure that good engineering practice is applied, an essential issue under the new directive.
