Abstract :
In this paper, the effect of interference from UWB devices on a W-CDMA network is analysed, both theoretically and by simulation. Two effects are considered, namely the reduction in network capacity that can be expected when UWB devices are widely deployed and there is a general rise in the noise floor of W-CDMA receivers, and the rise in the probability that any given W-CDMA terminal cannot meet its Q0S target for a given level of received UWB interference, independent of interference levels in the rest of the network. It is shown that devices conforming to the FCC limit could cause significant degradation in both these metrics even when the devices are located several metres from the W-CDMA terminals, whereas devices conforming to a proposed European limit would not cause significant degradation until the UWB devices came within a metre of the terminal.
