  • Abstract
In a conventional cellular system, a base station (BS) and mobile station (MS) will communicate directly using a wireless link. If multiple hops are introduced into a cellular system, the route a signal takes between the BS and MS can include relays which receive and retransmit the signal. In this paper we consider a system where the MSs can be used as relays. We investigate the effects of interference on the performance of a two hop cellular system. We look at the effect a source of interference has on a direct link and also give results from simulations showing how interference from BSs in neighbouring cells affects two hop coverage.
