Abstract :
In the present research, a global route guidance system framework which adopts the traffic assignment process has been developed to on-line predict traffic diversion points due to traffic bottleneck caused by traffic incident on freeway corridors. A set of route diversion/guidance control strategies for freeway motorists are proposed in accordance with traffic assignment results. Numerical test results based on a local freeway corridors network indicate that the proposed framework is capable of predicting traffic diversion points, and corresponding route diversion/guidance strategies provide suitable route diversion and trip rerouting suggestions. More importantly, better network performance is possibly achieved as a result of traffic re-distribution.
