Abstract
The soil model represents a fundamental role concerning the design of the ground electrode. It is important to analyze the influence on transformers caused during HVDC mono-polar operation. The surface potential affects the distribution of DC currents flowing through the neutrals of transformers. Sea is larger in area and less in resistivity than land. By mean of deriving the Green´s function in horizontal-layer and vertical-layer soil structures, the formula of in complex soil layer for calculating potential is derived using the concept of image. Simulation results show the surface potential closed to sea will drop to zero influenced by sea. The lower potential of substation makes more DC current of power grid flow through transformer neutrals.
