Abstract
The consumption behavior provokes frequency deviations that are controlled by power plants contributions to ancillary services. The trip of an important power generator obliges the transmission grid operator to buy energy through the balancing mechanism. Having real-time information about generation unit trips is also interesting for power producers. This kind of hints allows them to quantify the origins of major frequency deviations and to identify which power system produced such a deviation. Dynamic frequency deviation analysis allow several conclusions concerning serious faults detection and location. Present paper details generator trips detection method based on power oscillations and frequency monitoring. In addition, some numerical simulation results obtained on the UCTE (Union for the Coordination of Transmission of Electricity) grid are presented.
