Abstract
The paper presents an analytical derivation of a relationship between the parameters of a power system stabilizer (PSS) that results in the PSS producing a damping torque component only. Additionally, a method of shaping the frequency characteristic of the damping torque is presented. The method has been derived for a linear single-machine system model equipped with static excitation system. Good dynamic properties of the plant equipped with the proposed PSS have been confirmed by simulation using non-linear, single- and multi- machine models of an electric power system.
