Abstract
We review recent results on bidirectional erbium-doped waveguide amplifiers. We show that advanced EDWA exhibits very interesting features such as insensitivity to power fluctuation and bi-directional operation. Enhanced network design and transparent bidirectional WDM ring networks are presented.
