  • Abstract
Railroad is macro multiplex system that has complicated structure associated with electrical and electronics engineering, mechanical engineering; therefore, maintenance system must be the key part of railroad to support high reliability and safety. It is widely known that the cost required operating and maintaining macro multiplex system affects total operating cost greatly, usually it makes up to 60% of total life cycle cost. KORAIL is trying to develop train maintenance system by placing an order for establishing highspeed train operation & maintenance program, introduced to KTX (Korea Train express). The ministry of Construction and Transportation is also placing research subjects on maintenance system standardization in metropolitan rapid transit and KRRI (Korea Railroad Research Institute) is carrying on those subjects. It can be inferred that many railway operating companies and government agencies have a great concern in the need and importance of maintenance system and perform related studies in various ways. Train control maintenance system presented in this paper is expected to be applied to advanced Korea high-speed train control system so as to reduce failure causing factors, to improve safety, reliability and availability, and to minimize unnecessary inspections, replace works and operating costs via statistical inspection task cycle determining method by using failure data. Besides, it contributes to operating cost reduction by changing the train control maintenance system determined based on existing experiences. In other words, in this paper, we suggest RCM based train control maintenance system and, through this system, present optimum PM cycle maximizing high-speed train control equipment availability, and inspection task cycle and minimizing maintenance cost in quantitative way.
