Abstract :
In order to cope with the onset of adverse LHC beam conditions, particularly hadronic showers caused by a misaligned beam, the experiment is meant to be equipped with a beam-conditions monitor (BCM). The system will be based on chemical-vapor deposition (CVD) diamonds, which have been proven to withstand radiation doses as they may occur in LHC accident scenarios. Its design and implementation is described here.
