Abstract
Increasing power demand and tightened environmental constraints in UK call for highly efficient energy supply with low emission. In order to meet the demand, relying on energy diversity is unavoidable. Currently, Independent power providers in UK (and EU) are planning to build large scale power generation units. The current status is that the existing UK power generating fleets are of sub-critical type and are approaching their lifetime. The new green generation capacity can only be met by upgrading the existing sub-critical units to supercritical units and by building new supercritical low emission units. Since no new power plant has been built since 1980s, the skills shortage and knowledge gap in UK on power generation has raised the issue of the need of a UK design guidelines for power generation control. The presentation will talk about this need to facilitate the discussions and foster supports from UK industry and academia.
