Abstract
This paper reports on a SEAS DTC funded research project that aims to demonstrate the potential capability to predict the soaring possibilities within the local atmosphere in order to improve the range and endurance of autonomous airborne vehicles. A multi-agent architecture is described along with techniques for determining when and where to seek lift. Some results from initial flight trials using a surrogate manned sailplane are reported.
