Abstract :
Advanced multi-antenna solutions are expected to be an integral part of the next generation wireless system concept, providing ldr Improved spectral efficiency and increased user peak data rate ldr Increased range or coverage in a cost-efficient manner ldr Optimised radio resource management ldr Adaptivity to scenario and channel conditions. The design of future-generation smart antenna and MIMO systems involves a number of challenges, such as efficient multiuser processing, the scheduling of users in space, time and frequency, reconfigurability to varying scenarios in terms of propagation, traffic models, mobility, transceiver architectures, mobile terminal resources (i.e. battery lifetime), QoS requirements for different services and interference conditions.In this talk we present a number of possible approaches that address these challenges, namely: ldrMIMO transceiver reconfigurability ldrMultiuser MIMO and efficient feedback signalling ldrCombination of MIMO and multihop gains ldrCross-layer optimisation ldrInter-cell interference management and discuss the trade-off between performance gains and implementation and complexity limitations.
