Abstract :
Numerical dispersion relations in finite element time-domain methods are analytically derived for different mesh structures and basis functions. It is shown that, for certain combinations of mesh structure and basis functions, there is a particular choice of the discrete time step which minimizes the dispersion error. Some numerical results are presented to validate the theoretical analysis.
