Abstract
This paper presents experimental results for adaptive spatial filtering of radio frequency interference (RFI) using a 19 element, L-band focal plane array feed on a small (3 meter) reflector. Successful cancellation was observed for simulated stationary and moving RFI sources. Signal and noise response fluctuations (pattern rumble) due to beamformer adaptation was observed to be significantly larger for a moving interferer than for a stationary interferer, which points to the need for specialized signal processing to suppress pattern rumble in the presence of nonstationary RFI.
