Abstract :
This talk will provide an overview of Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS). We will describe some of the background to and history of MPLS, together with some of the key data and control plane mechanisms used by MPLS. We will then move on to explain how MPLS is used to support new applications such as Layer 3 and Layer 2 VPNs over a converged IP network infrastructure. These applications require the traffic engineering, QoS and resiliency that MPLS provides, and can also be used to support services for which synchronization is a critical requirement.
