Abstract :
This paper presents the work being carried out by Vodafone to assess whether IEEE 1588v2 can provide a ubiquitous solution fulfilling the synchronization requirements of current and future Vodafone mobile networks over different backhaul technologies and traffic loads. The results of IEEE 1588v2 lab tests performed with a mix of IP/MPLS over Ethernet and SHDSL/ADSL transport are analysed and the main conclusions drawn. The paper also describes the necessary future steps in IEEE 1588v2 to enable its widespread adoption by mobile operators.
