Abstract :
WiMAX (worldwide interoperability for microwave access),a technology based on an evolving standard for point-to-multipoint wireless networking.Wireless internet services can be provided to user´s antennas through transreceivers, for which carriers use WiMAX (S.J. Vaughan-Nichols, 2004).WiMAX, a standard based technology(802.16x) has emerged as an alternative to cables and DSL in providing Wireless broadband access. WiMAX a forum certified system will provide fixed,, nomadic ,portable mobile wireless broadband connectivity. This paper focuses on how WiMAX evolved, its standards, market potential and how it can migrate into the promising world of 4 G.
