Abstract :
High-speed protection of transmission lines for faults anywhere in the zone of protection is achieved using unit protection based on communications between the relays at all ends of the line. The paper compares line differential protection with directional comparison protection in order to present the benefits and deficiencies of each of these two protection systems.
