Abstract :
This paper presents an accurate model for symmetric load ring Voltage Controlled Oscillators (VCO) in submicron technologies. The proposed VCO model is based on the Mosfet Advanced Compact Model in order to guarantee high accuracy of results when submicron technologies are used. An example considering a 1.8 V SMIC018 VCO is presented, where the accuracy of the results obtained against Hspice simulation is shown. The simplicity of the model as well as the accuracy of the results obtained, make the proposed model a good candidate for being integrated into a system for the automatic design of VCOs.
