Abstract :
Liberalization of the electricity market forces asset managers to choose for the most cost effective strategies on overhaul and replacement of network components. This results in more and more data from diagnostic measurements as well a growing need of adequate failure reporting. A powerful tool to analyse the data and to draw conclusions is the use of statistical analysis. For diagnostic measurements this can result in the determination of boundary values and the abstraction of knowledge rules. By means of statistical analysis of life time data the residual life of assets can be determined and future failures can be predicted. The methodology of statistical analysis is straightforward and can be done by going through different steps, which are presented.
