Abstract :
Incorporation of battery energy storage system into a Unified Power Flow Control (UPFC) scheme is examined. One crucial factor in the design is in the determination of the capacity of the storage system. Assuming the power input to the battery storage system is from a photovoltaic source, design issues including battery utilization factor and the state of charge of the battery are used in a method to determine and assess the suitability of battery capacity. A computational method to achieve the design is proposed.
