Abstract :
STATCOMs provide controlled VAr compensator for grid voltage support. This paper describes the control of a STATCOM which incorporates a super capacitor energy storage unit. This combination can deliver real power to the grid and, with the support of an enhanced communication network between system elements, offers the potential to improve the stability margin of a given power system.
