Abstract
Radiochromic films are now being widely used by radiation oncologists and medical physicists to analyse complex photon field distributions relevant to therapy planning at modern medical linear accelerators. Linear dose response, absence of cumbersome chemical processing and lower cost facilitate the radiochromic films as highly reliable passive radiation dosimeters for clinical applications. However, one of the major shortcomings of the radiochromic films is the limited dynamic range, thereby restricting their application as wide range passive gamma dosimeters like ThermoLuminescent Dosimeters (TLDs). We have developed novel experimental techniques to broaden the dynamic detection range of common radiochromic film of type Gaf-EBT (Manufacturer: International Speciality Product, ISP, USA) from 5.0 – 500 cGy to 0.3 – 1200 cGy. An application of enhanced radiochromic film dosimeters (ERFD) replacing the well known TLD in radiation dosimetry of high-energy accelerator is recommended.
