Abstract :
Side information generation is a major function in the distributed video coding (DVC) scheme. It significantly determines the performance of the codec. In this paper, an improved technique is proposed for the temporal side information generation process. In the forward motion estimation, various block sizes and a weighted distortion function are adopted in the mode decision step. Motion vectors of the temporal side information frame are generated based on the motion trajectory together with the covered samples. The motion vectors are coordinated by a weighted mean filter instead of the median filter. Extensive simulations show the proposed scheme can achieve more than 0.4 dB gains on PSNR under the same bitrate.
