Abstract :
In this paper, we up-convert IR-UWB (Impulse Radio-Ultra Wide-Band) signals for transmission over single mode optical fiber systems. We use a low cost device, a single mode vertical cavity surface emitting laser (VCSEL) and demonstrate the feasibility to up-convert a monocycle (800 MHz - 2.5 GHz), while retaining a high resemblance, beyond the relaxation frequency of the laser diode up to around 12 GHz. A correlation figure of 0.94 is obtained between the emitted and received pulse.
