  • Abstract
According to the both-terminal traveling wave fault location, a novel network-based traveling wave fault location algorithm is presented in this paper. In the algorithm, information fusion technology is applied, and the information fusion path is analyzed through the shortest propagation path principle. The traveling wave arrival times recorded by remote substation is converted into times at reference substations which are closest to fault line. Then the morbid converted-times are eliminated and all the valid converted-times are fused with decided weight, the exact fault position is calculated at last. The algorithm presented in this paper can effectively resolve the problem of fault location failure when some fault location devices start-up failure or the time recording errors. The algorithm is tested by ATP/EMTP simulation for ZhuZhou 220 kV power grid. Testing results show that the algorithm is with high precision and robustness, and the fault distance error is no more than 100 m.
