Abstract :
Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has been hailed and promoted as the key to open the door to business success. While ICT recognises no geographical boundaries and is evolving at a phenomenal pace, critical issues such as aligning ICT strategies to corporate goals, clearly defining the roles of ICT in the business, contribution of ICT to the achievement of the business objectives and assessing the impact and effectiveness of ICT on business ventures of people from more conservative and traditional societies, have largely remain unchallenged for years. In an attempt to encourage Pasifika peoples to adapt and use ICT to enhance and ensure success of their businesses this paper examines the extent of ICT adoption by Pasifika businesses in Wellington, New Zealand, in order to assess their ability to capitalise on the opportunities offered by a technology that is alien to their culture and revolutionise the ways in which they do business in their societies. The study, presented in this paper, was carried out using a mixed-method approach which comprised quantitative and qualitative data collection techniques. A thorough analysis of the data that were gathered with the quantitative data collection technique is presented, in more detail in this paper, and the result is used to develop pathways for Pasifika peoples in New Zealand to capitalised on the platform that has been set out by the digital technology.
