Broadcast of the FIS World Ski Cup in a 16:9 aspect ratio format: Zagreb, Sljeme 2008

According to FIS demand, Croatian Radio Television (HRT) has decided to transmit World Ski Cup competition from Sljeme in the 16:9 (widescreen) aspect ratio format. For that purpose, HRT has used two Digital TV Outside Broadcast Vehicles (OB vans). Simultaneously to 16:9 transmission for international distribution, it has been necessary to ensure 4:3 aspect ratio transmission for the viewers in Croatia who receive TV signal over the analogue terrestrial network. Because of continuous expanding of the DVB-T network and number of TV receivers with 16:9 picture aspect ratio, future plan is to transmit the same event for Croatian viewers over DVB-T system in the full 16:9 format. In this way combined broadcasting should encourage Croatian viewers to a quicker transition from analogue to digital television because of its advantages.
