Abstract :
PTK (Post and Telecommunication of Kosovo) is incumbent telecommunication operator, providing fixed and mobile services in Kosova. On the fixed side is not done too much on penetration increment (currently is around 6%), but very good steps on technological level are taken. The complete voice switching network infrastructure is digital, based on TDM and NGN. Broadband services are offered using xDSL. Transmission infrastructure is based on MW and F.O, always working towards building a strong optical network. Although the main optical back bone is still under implementation, it is covering main centers of Kosova using SDH hierarchy or dark fiber concept. From the FTTH point of view the telecommunication infrastructure in Kosovo is a green field. The orientation is building flexible and intelligent optical networks. PONs are very attractive solution for Kosovo. The experiences and techno-economic analysis of broadband technologies in European countries are useful inputs on future development of FTTH in Kosovo. Through this paper the future aspects toward FTTH implementation in Kosovopsilas network are presented.
