Abstract
An ultrasonic elliptical vibration boring device was developed for solving the problems of large relieving amount and wall thickness error in thin-walled cylindrical workpiece boring because of low cutting force and deformation in ultrasonic elliptical vibration cutting. The elliptical vibration was produced by a double-bend transducer which could provide a pair of vertical ultrasonic vibrations at the same frequency. The deformation principle of thin-walled tube in machining was studied. It also discussed the connection between cutter relieving and thickness difference. The experiment of boring thin-walled titanium tube shows that ultrasonic elliptical vibration cutting reduces the thrust force sharply. Compared with the common cutting, the elastic deformation and thickness error are reduced obviously in ultrasonic elliptical vibration cutting.
