Abstract
The present paper describes a new method for numerical analysis of tooth contact area in computer simulation for plunge cut shaving process. A computer simulation program has been developed to reduce trial-and-error processes that are required to improve a shaved gear tooth flanks. In the simulation, stock removals of shaved gear tooth flanks are evaluated from depth of cut of cutting edge. The depths of cut are calculated at all of referred points on the calculating tooth flanks. In order to reduce a calculation time, the depth of cut was calculated only for positions near geometrical contact area. As a result, the calculation time is remarkably reduced.
