Abstract :
A discretizing probabilistic model for predicting crack nucleation life is proposed in the paper. In the model, the mechanisms of crack nucleation and microstructural parameters of materials are taken into account. Based on the model, a discretizing approach for predicting the mean value, standard deviation and coefficient of variation of the fatigue crack nucleation life has been developed. And the discrete distribution of nucleation life can be gained directly. The approach is simple, practicable and better fit for the application in the engineering for engineers.
