Abstract
In this paper, a novel high Q resonator is presented and it is applied to the design of an I-band oscillator. The measurement of the resonator itself shows that it provides a higher loaded quality factor compared to the spiral-resonator. The oscillators are designed to operate at 10 GHz using the spiral and novel resonator to compare the phase noise performance. The measurement results show the output power of 6.84 dBm and 8.18 dBm, and the phase noise of -90.84 dBc/Hz and -103.48 dBc/Hz at 100 kHz offset, respectively.
