Abstract
There is a significant amount of information on the susceptibility of track circuits and other equipment in the industry domain and this is growing. We are moving towards a ´gabarit´ approach but this will still leave areas that require testing, for example transient generation, track circuits such as HVI and possibly telecom circuits. EMC requirements should be considered throughout the traction system design. These requirements include both emissions levels and failure rates for equipment. Software design for traction systems is increasing important in demonstrating compliance; a sound development strategy is required. It is possible for new and old systems to coexist it just requires a bit of effort and planning.
