Abstract
In this paper, a general research for the design scheme of bearingless motors is presented. Bearingless motors are different from normal motors as both torque and radial forces are generated in one magnetic circuit in bearingless motors. Based on the known design of normal motors the reduction of the utilization factor C by the radial force generation is considered. By an iterative sequence a reduction factor Kr is continuously modified until the rated power and maximum radial force are reached for the same airgap area. A synchronous reluctance bearingless motor is designed for verification.
